Patient self-administration of Vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin) injections

Take control of your B12 treatment

Did you know that you may be eligible to administer your own Vitamin B12 injections at home?

For many patients, coming into the surgery every 12 weeks for an injection can be inconvenient. We are pleased to offer a Self-Administration Service designed to give you more freedom and flexibility.

If you're already setup for this and need to access the self-administration checklist and record, click here:

Why switch to self-administration?

  • Convenience: No more booking appointments or travelling to the surgery.

  • Control: Inject at a time and place that suits you.

  • Comfort: Many patients find they prefer doing it themselves in the comfort of their own home.

How does it work?

  1. Read: Download the Patient Information Leaflet below to see if this is right for you.

  2. Training: If you are interested, contact Reception to book a "B12 Training Appointment." Our nurses will teach you how to inject safely into your thigh.

  3. Prescribe: Once signed off as competent, we will provide the needles and syringes, and issue a prescription for your medication and a sharps bin to your usual pharmacy.

  4. Inject: You administer your injections at home every 12 weeks.

  5. Record: You let us know you have done it online or by handing in a completed paper form.

  6. Review: Once a year come to see the nurse to confirm this remains right for you, let the nurse inspect your injection sites, and answer any questions you may have.
